Single Perspective

If I thought from only a single perspective, then the world would be easy.

(Hmmm, sidenote, that might be a single-perspective-person's point of view. Perhaps, multiple perspectives makes learning easier? Single-perspective makes understanding easier (right or wrong) because there is less to think about)

I am smarter than Google. Because I use Google, I'm at least as smart as it. Because I know at least one more thing than Google, I am thus smarter. =/

I Know Nothing

I know nothing.

Here's how I arrived at that conclusion.

Consider what matter is made up of. Whenever you look closer at it, it is made up of more nothingness.

And, when you try to look closer at the knowledge you know to figure out what your knowledge consist of, you'll see things you don't know everywhere.

If that's not enough for you, let's consider a math side to this. Let X be the amount of information you know, which is a finite amount. The amount of total information in the universe approaches infinity. So, the amount you know is X / ∞ = 0 = nothing.

You can't be yourself being someone else.

ps - I hope nobody finds this to be an insight. This is a half-parody, half-common-sense-insights, half-ironic, half-random, half-a-fifth blog. But, one common theme is that I hope nobody has said the things I write (whether they be good or blatantly bad).

Error Descriptions

One possible reason that error descriptions may not be that useful is because if the developer knew the issue, then it would more likely be fixed rather than writing an error description from it.

Dropping Buttered Toast: Up or down

There is a myth that buttered toast "always" lands buttered-side down. The main/popular logical physics reason is that the buttered side is heavier.

Another physics reason for toast in particular is that the buttered side is softer than the non-buttered side. So, if the toast landed on an edge, then the soft butter side would give way easier to allow that buttered side to fall down first.

Don't Know Don't Know

What you don't know and what you don't know you don't know are two different skill sets. Both are important.

With just the first, you are ignorant and you think you are smart.

With just the second, you know that you are ignorant and there is always more to learn.

With both, you can know what you know and know what you don't know. I'm sure there is more that can be said about that, but I don't know what it is at this time. I'm willing to listen though..

If you do something for just one hour a day for two months, then it is a big part of your life.

2. People don't own Macs, Macs own People.

Infinite Willpower

Some people conclude that each person only has a certain amount of willpower to use everyday. It's a great idea that I've believed in and it seems to make sense because you can see it everyday as people "burn-out" doing things they don't want to do, like studying, working, not-eating, etc. But, I'd like to present a different side of this.

Thinking that you only have a certain amount of willpower to spare is just an excuse to give up. So, forget about willpower, it may be the wrong line of thinking if you want to reach [more] goals and give up less.

So, what do you do without willpower leading your life? You live and do whatever you want to do, without thinking/worrying about any "scientific" or psychological reasons/excuses. Whatever your current goal is, focus in on that one. Remind yourself every second, minute, hour, and/or day to get your top priorities done first (see my post on Priority Lists). Caveat: Your well-being typically comes first, which includes sleeping and possibly eating.

Any weakness is just in your head, and you can overcome it.

Summary:

My original note-to-self said:
Infinite willpower by not knowing what willpower is.

Half a World Away

There are two main countries that I have lived in: USA and Japan. So, when I think of someone being half a world away, one of the first thoughts I have is that the person is in a timezone half a day away.

Now, an interesting concept is that a person half-a-world away could be in the same timezone. That makes me feel better. And, knowing that the Internet connects us is another perk.

Positive Chaos

Chaos doesn't have to be a negative.

Creativity comes from the bowels of chaos in the mind.

One thinks of many random things, some good, some bad, some average. That's chaos - just a lot of different things going on.

Q: How do you stop chaos?
A: By doing the exact same thing over and over and over and over again repeatedly.

Now that I've mentioned chaos in this different perspective, isn't it time to embrace chaos more?
